Toronto building permits, May 2024
The City of Toronto issued 2,629 building permits in May 2024, −4.2% on April 2024 and −3.5% on May 2023. Between them they cover 2,359 new homes and $1.3B of declared construction value. Yonge-Bay Corridor took the most permits of any neighbourhood, at 105.

How to read this, and what it is not
This counts permits the City issued in May 2024, not permits applied for. An issued permit is a decision that has happened, which is what makes the month a real unit. A permit applied for in May 2024 may not be issued for months and will appear in that month instead. Permit counts are not construction: a single build often takes separate building, plumbing, HVAC and drain permits, so 2,629 permits is fewer than 2,629 projects.

Figures are rebuilt daily from the City’s open data and can revise as the City updates its own records, so a month keeps settling for a while after it ends. Nothing here is hand-entered.
